The
Lake Minnetonka Kennel Club was initiated by a small group of dog fanciers
who wanted to promote purebred dogs in the area and host a quality dog show,
while at the same time, be able to enjoy one another's company.
Their first AKC All-Breed Dog Show was held
in 1955. These first members nurtured this club well, and a growing
membership helped them develop and hold
memorable dog shows in Wayzata, Minnesota for many years. Today,
the Lake Minnetonka Kennel Club continues
with its original traditions and mission - that of holding quality dog shows
and promoting purebred dogs, while at the
same time, maintaining lasting friendships with one another. For years
our shows were held at the Wayzata
Junior High School, and later we moved to the Braemar Arena in Edina.
We held our shows at the Carver County Fairgrounds also, and we are now
holding our shows at the expansive Scott County Fairgrounds in order to have
plenty of room for parking and everything else that goes along with a large
dog show today. Our first shows hosted just a couple hundred dogs and
today we typically have entries of over 1300 dogs. Our shows include
conformation, obedience, and rally at the present time. The Lake
Minnetonka Kennel Club prides itself on its members of whom we have several
lifetime memberships and even a few individuals who have been with us since the
beginning or close to it.
